About My Car

October 31st, 2008

In a few months time my car loan will be paid off. I am glad. After 7 years the car is finally mine. I will not be getting a new care for the time being. I am tired of renting and paying off loans. I wish I had plenty of cash.. and pay everything in cash - :) – That is not a wise move anyway.
Talking about my car.. The maintenance is a big headache. You need to maintain the parts, especially the moving ones like tires, brake pads, timing belt and the list go on. Please do not neglect your car and postponing maintenance checks and oil change. Just keep it well maintained for your safety.

Things to do to my car
* Touch up the paint - I hate door dings and uneven surface/scratches.
* Remove the window tinting (ugly now) and replace with a new one..
* New car seats.. I could feel the coils poking my but cheeks whenever I am driving. LOL

Drove my sister’s brand new Myvi auto the other day. It was a smooth ride. i am quite impressed with this car. It have to admit that is car is really worth your money. It was a smooth ride. I also tested the overdrive off function during overtaking in in turnpike. With ABS and Immobilizer included 48k is really good. I am considering getting one myself. ;) soon.

How To Jump Start A Car!

September 13th, 2008

My younger brother came to my place to borrow my car - which i use very rarely (I walk to work). Later he called me up from downstairs to inform me that my car refused to start. Funny - the car was fine the day before.

We tried to jump start the car but failed. To cut the long story short the was some sort of corrosion at the battery terminal. I thought the jumper cable was not working anymore and drove the petrol station to get a new one or get a new batt. I got a new jumper cable cause the batt was way too expensive. While I was at the petrol station my bro cleaned the terminal and he managed to start the car.

Initially and my point that I want to raise here - my brother thought that he should connect the positive and negative terminals together ! and I warn you you should not do that@!!! That is so dangerous. Your batts could explode.

Here is the right way to do it

Youtube Video Jump Start A Car
1. Connect one end of the Positive(+) cable to the Positive(+) post of the dead battery.
2. Connect the other end of the Positive(+) cable to the Positive(+) post of the good battery.
3. Connect one end of the Negative(-) cable to the Negative(-) post of the good battery.
4. Connect the other end of the Negative(-) cable to a good solid SHINY, NON PAINTED metal part of the engine on the dead car. Usually a giant shiny nut on the engine block will do. A painted, dirty, or oily nut will not work. You usually want to avoid placing the Negative(-) cable directly on the dead battery to minimize the chance for explosions. You should only use the ground post on the dead battery as a last resort. On this step you’ll get a normal spark as you connect the ground and complete the circuit

Ubuntu

I decided to try Ubuntu linux for my home desktop. I never tried on Ubuntu before and I installed Centos previously. I have to admit that I am hooked to it and decided not to purchase Windows Xp license.
I can do most things on Ubuntu for example
P2P - Limewire (Yay!)
Globetrotter 3G - I am using my Maxis3g with Ubuntu!
Watching DVD - VLC
Word processing - With Openoffice
Surfing - Firefox
IM - Pidgin

Plus tonnes more.. Yay Ubuntu rocks

Injured Again :(

May 13th, 2008

I am now limping due to inflammation of muscle near my knee. I thought by massaging and warming up the area would make the pain go away, but i was totally wrong. My thigh was swollen and could not bend my knee and later realized that I probably did the wrong thing my putting hot massage oil and warm it with warm water.
I should not have done that…

Last night I put a big chunk of ice and I managed to reduce the inflammation. Now I can bend my knee and i feel a lot better. I walk slightly better now.. Oh ok.. here is why ice is good in order to reduce inflammation.

Apply ice to inflammation

It is important to understand the process of inflammation in order to explain the symptoms and treatment of soft tissue injuries.
A normal “warmed up” muscle has elastic properties, much like a rubber band, so that it has some degree of resiliency or “give” when stretched. A “cold” or tight muscle, however, has characteristics resembling scotch tape - when stretched, it eventually has to tear.

When muscle fibers tear (microscopically), they leak out tissue fluid that begins to accumulate locally near the site of injury. Inflammation is the result of this tissue fluid build-up and is characterized by localized swelling and tenderness. Frequently the region will be warm and have a reddish color due to the increased circulation. (All tissues can swell to some degree, whether you see it or not; an ankle sprain can be easily seen because a relatively small region is involved and there is nothing lower in the body to where gravity can pull the fluid.)

Maxis3G Vs Celcom Broadband - 2008 Review

April 24th, 2008

To sum up after subscribing both for years.

Inferior 3G coverage compared to Celcom 3G. I went to small towns and could not get Maxis3g but my Celcom showing coverage bars - (i.e Durian Tunggal - Melaka, Mersing - Johor). When I am not away from my wired broadband, I use Maxis3g to download (direct download ISOs and Movies) You can leave it on and download using download applications and you can get full speed. Well as for Celcom 3G you can download at full speed if there is activity on your browser - That means you need to surf certain sites and the download progress will move. If you leave it on and download using download manager only, the connection will drop tremendously. I am not happy. I guess I will terminate my Celcom3g and keep my maxis for downloading big files. I don’t really like surfing using 3g or hsdpa because of the latency. It is not stable unless you get full bar coverage and near the transmission tower. I am very positive that Maxis will beef up their coverage by erecting more towers. And the winner is Maxis3G.

P/s This is direct download not using torrent.

Limiting Apache2 Bandwidth

January 15th, 2008

It is a pain if you are running virtual hosting and one of the domains keep on bursting. Definitely will cost you pocket loads of cash to pay for overages.

Gzip a folder

January 11th, 2008

I know how to unzip a gz file but not making one.. here is now

tar -cvzpf filename.tgz folder

LOL

FYI: gzip can only compress a single file. tar can archive multiple files, but it doesn’t compress them. Therefore the two tools are often used together: first you archive all the files into one with tar, then you compress that file with gzip

Apologize - OneRepublic Feat Timbaland

December 14th, 2007

Lyrics : -

I’m holding on your rope,
Got me ten feet off the ground
I’m hearin what you say but I just can’t make a sound
You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down, but wait
You tell me that you’re sorry
Didn’t think I’d turn around, and say…

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

I’d take another chance, take a fall
Take a shot for you
And I need you like a heart needs a beat
But it’s nothin new
I loved you with a fire red-
Now it’s turning blue, and you say…
“Sorry” like the angel heaven let me think was you
But I’m afraid…

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late

Bridge (guitar/piano)

It’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
I said it’s too late to apologize, it’s too late
It’s too late to apologize, yeah
I said it’s too late to apologize, yeah-
I’m holdin on your rope, got me ten feet off the ground…

Gateway Glitch

December 13th, 2007

I got terrible headache today because of 2 web servers i managed downed due to gateway error in the data centre. IIt is quite depressing since you could not do anything and waited. I smoked a lot today.
The internet is not one straight line. Your computer –> Server. Not that way. In order to view one web site, you have to go thru coppers, wires, cables, under sea cables etc, but for laymen, they just want it to work. Switch go berserk sometimes. Machines are and computers are not reliable anyway. Plus if you have moving parts. They will break down one day. You just have to be prepared.

Not Zend

November 20th, 2007

But Ioncube did it… (refer to post below.) Ioncube loader refuse to play nice with Zend 3.3.0. I downgraded Zend and they play nice now. *Sigh. Anyway Php is now 5.2.5 .

Zend Optimizer 3.3.0 Segmentation fault.

November 16th, 2007

New version of scripts or software do not mean better than the old one. Sometimes the old one is better because it is fully tested or debugged. It is also proven to be reliable by thousand of users. Take for example Zend Optimizer and PHP. Recently the latest Zend optimizer 3.3.0 causing havoc. At non busy times like sunday morning, the white screen of death will occur and Apache webserver needs to be started manually. This is such a pain. I downgraded to Zend 3.28 and by looking at Apache logs, segmentation faults are logged rarely than the latest version.
