Our modem went kaput – maybe due to under utilized? My friend went to Amax office in Taman Tun and requested for a replacement. I strongly suggest that you run some burn in test for your modem to prevent gone kaput early like ours. Just leave it on for a day or two

Streamyx was down today. Half a day. My colleagues had to tap on unsecured Wifi (scarry – insecure) . I called the helpline and had to go through process. I was very professional so they escalated my problem to Level 2 Tech. That is the trick. Convince them, and go through the ping and gateway ping processes in order to identify the problem (DSLAM or My connection), I also informed them that other people in the area could not connect and Cyber Cafe around the corner had to put up a sign * No Internet – LOL.

The connection recovered at 2.45pm. I suddenly realized that we need a secondary connection. P1 / Or Amax. I picked Amax. Fiz my colleague and best friend called their agent and she returned the call 10 minutes later (she was driving ). Amax sent two techs in orange car, me and another colleague saw the car on the way to the parking lot. I said to my friend, look at that amax car, they probably looking for our office.

When I was at the Datacentre installing and troubleshooting servers, Fiz called me up to inform Amax already done testing and deploying our backup internet connection. Yay!. According to him installation was a breze and yes the guys in amax car were the assigned installer techies. I took the modem home and use it to surf and blog today.

Here is the continuous ping result. We subscribe for 1Mbps package only

My SSH connection is also stable compared to 3G. Please take note this is Wireless so you could not compare with Streamyx (my office) or Time Netlynx (my home)

One thing I noticed about AMAX, they tend too keep changing ips, upstream and downstream not too sure. I had problem with my company billing system. Thank god I tweaked “Disable Session IP Check” and I managed to log in to the billing system. I had trouble logging to other pages that require session IP check though.

What is the point of all that? Load balancing? Keeping Bittorrent tracking confused? As for normal surfing I think it is sufficient, Winamp and Youtube, stutters though. To sum it up. Good job lah for Wireless. Definitely better than 3G.

I decided to cancel my Maxis3g datacard plan. Bad connection anyways. I was one of the earliest susbcribers when they had sort of soft launch many years ago.

I opt for Celcom3g now. It is better compared to Maxis3G. Maxis seem to be pulling down 3G/HSDPA towers not erecting new ones. Hey I can 3G at Mersing Johor with Celcom and at the beach at Port Dickson. My Maxis3g datacard was useless. Not even a single bar. Sorry I don’t do GPRS!

I did the cancellation at Maxis store at Gardens – Mid Valley. I added so called “value added service” to my HTC Touch line – Data plan RM 78 for 1.5 Gig data usage. I use this device to email and wasting time with Face book, MSN, or You tube. At least I am no longer paying RM 99 to Maxis in order to have backup internet connection.

Thanks to Celcom. I can SMS to use broadband daily if I want to connect remotely or use as backup.

When will P1 wimax will be covering whole taman desa. It is nice to have another backup line in case the main broadband gone beserk / TimeNet with DNS error and Streamyx with international congestion. Sigh!

Gosh, I surf the net at Port Dickson using Celcom broadband daily RM 6 because Maxis3G sucks. No Maxis 3g in PD anyway. Celcom line was fast and stable. I forgot to renew my daily subscription by sending SMS to 28880 and the notification sent to my 3G card. I fell asleep and time passes by… I quickly renewed my broadband daily. Now is the suprise. Today I received my bill and excess data usage (pay per use) is RM 600. Fcuk! Data usage is 5775 units. Thank god i am on executive plan and I got some discounts etc. You better be very careful if you surf using data card. I think celcom should auto disconnect the connection to prevent burning holes in customers’ pocket.

Maxis has started throttling download accelerator. I mentioned previously in my blog. I only use Maxis3G to download huge files from the internet. The throughput is okay but the latency is sometimes intolerable. What do you expect from wireless anyway. So back to throttling thingy – in order to bypass this, just adjust your downloader’s header to internet explorer 5 or any other browser.. *trick em

I am ditiching my homenet 448 to upgrade to Time Netlynx 4Mbps. It will cost me RM 19X but I just don’t care.I am happy with Homenet latency and speed, but 448Kbps is just not sufficient for 4 laptops to surf simutaneously. We need tp get our Youtube fix you know!

Apparently Netlynx promotion rather non existent in my area. I wrote to TimeNet to upgrade our broadband speed but received no response. I bet they prefer the current subscriber to pay RM 138.00 monthly for 448Kbps. Upgrading broadband service to Netlynx 2Mbps will reduce their profit because it is only cost subscribers RM 99 monthly. I found out about it thru local tech forum Lowyat.net. I frequest Netlynx.net.my on monthly basis to check on the availibility, but the web site is rather ‘dead’.

My Maxis 3G is down at 2am in the morning. Upset. Tried everything from rebooting, inserting the card in and out again. Thank god I still have my ol’ and reliable DSL!

You need to install East Asian Language.. Just follow steps below
Windows XP: Start menu -> Control Panel -> Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options -> Languages tab -> Install East Asian Languages -> Apply -> OK.

If you experience media failed during test or your Linux ISO failed to boot properly – boot media failed err 04 etc, most probably that CDs of yours already toasted. It happend to me several times until i found Imgburn . Saves me a lot of CD-R. It still sucks though.

This online shop is selling stuff like Huawei USB modem, hmmm temptation only RM1068. This is cheaper if you were to get from Celcom3G.

I signed up for Celcom D120 plan two days ago cause i missed this great offer in Penang. (refer below). Mr Yap (the thread starter) emailed me this morning that I could sign up for RM 88. That is a pretty good deal compared to Maxis3G. Better coverage and less “hops”. Celcom3g latency is less than Maxis. So I am going to cancel my D120 if my application got thru.

This is my new router in action – Leaving it on 24/7. Currently downloading Centos 4.5 iso (600MB) thru Celcom3G

I managed to configure the router in about 45 minutes, had problem picking ther right card and it was not detected.
I have to suspend my maxis3g line and opt for Celcom instead. I really impressed with the connectivity. I don’t have to install any compression software just insert the SIM and you can surf automatically. I signed up for D120 data plan at Bangsar Tm this evening.

Dlink 451 + Option HSDPA (from maxis) + Celcom 3g .. better..
I don’t know what to do with My Maxi3G line since I have signed up for 2 year contract..
Leave it suspended I guess. :{)

I have been searching all over KL for this 3g router.Retail price is rm 599. I sent an email to Dlink hq based in Singapore. They suggested me to check one of the distributors in Low Yat Plaza but too bad. The router is not available yet. If you know where I can
